Alpaca gloves for women and men

… soft and gentle on the skin

Alpaca gloves keep your hands pleasantly warm in cool temperatures and are also breathable, so your hands don't sweat. The cause of cold hands is reduced blood circulation. Cuddly soft alpaca wool prevents this and keeps the warmth in the gloves. The special thing about gloves made of alpaca wool is not only their warming properties, but the highest quality baby alpaca is also soft, gentle on the skin, resilient and durable.

Alpaca fibers have hollow spaces that provide warmth and store heat. Alpacas live in the Andes Mountains of South America at an altitude of over 3,500 meters. The weather conditions there are extreme, with temperatures well below zero, plus wind and rain. Alpacas' fur protects them from the cold and also ensures that the New World camelids do not overheat in intense sunlight.

This is what makes gloves made of alpaca wool special

Alpaca wool has properties that even put silk, cashmere and merino in the shade. Since its beginnings in the times of the Incas in South America, alpaca material was considered the fleece of the gods, reserved only for the nobility.

Thermal properties

Alpaca gloves protect your hands effectively from the cold while keeping you warm. To date, alpaca wool is the warmest wool; it insulates seven times better than sheep's wool.

Soft & scratch-free

Unlike cashmere or merino, there is no such thing as just one type of alpaca wool. Instead, there are five different qualities of wool. The highest quality is baby alpaca, which is the softest and warmest alpaca wool. It can be worn directly on the skin without itching. In lower qualities such as alpaca, fine or superfine, alpaca wool can be scratchy.

Breathable

Alpaca wool gloves keep your hands warm in cool outside temperatures and are also breathable, so they wick away moisture and do not develop bad odors.

Hypoallergen

Alpaca wool contains hardly any lanolin (wool fat), a fatty substance that often leads to allergic reactions on the skin. Alpaca gloves are therefore also suitable for people who are allergic to wool, suffer from neurodermatitis, people with sensitive skin and children. Alpaca camels are colorful, which simplifies the dyeing process and often makes it completely unnecessary. With the colors black, gray, brown and white you are wearing the natural color of the alpacas. The gloves do not contain any chemicals and your skin will thank you.

Robust

Alpaca wool is soft and robust at the same time. It is four times more durable than sheep's wool and is therefore particularly suitable for gloves that are put on and taken off frequently.

Easy-care

You can wash your alpaca wool gloves less often with a clear conscience. Alpaca wool is naturally dirt-repellent and ventilates well in the fresh air. Caring for your alpaca gloves is easy because you can wash them by hand or in the washing machine.

Alpaca gloves from Peru – quality & tradition combined

By choosing alpaca gloves from Peru, you are not only choosing the highest quality, but you are also supporting the traditional craftsmanship of this breathtaking Andean country. A special feature of alpaca wool gloves from Peru is that the wool quality is the highest there, as the country has a long tradition of extracting and processing alpaca wool into natural fiber clothing. Neighboring countries such as Bolivia, Argentina and Chile cannot match the quality level of alpaca wool from Peru. The quality is not the same in Germany and other European countries either, as the alpacas there do not live in their natural habitat, at an altitude of over 3,500 meters, which has a significant influence on the high quality of the wool. In Peru, the different qualities of alpaca wool are sorted out by hand. So that buyers can be sure that they are buying wool without animal cruelty, our Peruvian alpaca wool has been awarded the Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS). Alpacas are environmentally friendly animals that do not harm the landscape with their soft paw pads and their eating habits. Unlike cashmere goats, Andean camels cut grasses as they eat, thus promoting grass growth and green landscapes.

At Alpakin, we primarily work with small manufacturers. We also offer handmade alpaca gloves in our range, which are made by women in Peru. To complete your winter outfit, you can combine our alpaca wool gloves with the warmest alpaca wool socks and soft scarves.

Buy Alpaca Gloves - Why Alpakin

The special thing about Alpakin's alpaca gloves is their quality and their timeless, simple design. We use 100% softest baby alpaca wool for a gentle feel on the skin. We barely mix our clothing and accessories with synthetic fibers or other types of wool, as the alpaca wool can then no longer fully develop its special properties. Baby alpaca does not mean the wool of young animals. Instead, this rare alpaca fiber is obtained from protected body areas of adult alpacas. Baby alpaca accounts for less than 10% of the world's wool production. Due to its rarity and softness, the natural fiber is unusual and more expensive. Please do not subject the fine baby alpaca gloves to strong mechanical stress such as gardening. They are more sensitive and should therefore be treated with care.

Our gloves made of alpaca wool are timeless, so you'll look forward to taking them out of your wardrobe every year. They are high-quality and finely crafted and come in knitted patterns, plain colors or with subtle Peruvian patterns. For more joy of life in the gray everyday winter life.

How to wash alpaca gloves properly

Washing alpaca wool is easier than you think. Alpaca wool is naturally dirt-repellent and robust. Your alpaca gloves can be washed less often because unpleasant smells simply disappear overnight when aired out. You can wash your alpaca gloves by hand or in the washing machine. We recommend that you use a special wool detergent and avoid fabric softener. Baby alpaca wool should only be washed in the washing machine using the wool program, at no more than 30 degrees Celsius and 600 revolutions per minute. Do not put alpaca gloves in the dryer, but let them air dry lying down. When hand washing, clean the alpaca gloves carefully and do not rub too hard to avoid pilling. If your alpaca gloves are affected by pilling, we will show you in our blog what you can do if alpaca wool is fluffy.
