Kundenbewertung Katrin Bayerle aus München trägt Alpaka Tunika Una von Alpakin in grau

I'm really excited about my sweaters from Alpakin: I love wearing them in my free time but also in the office under a blazer. The sweaters keep me warm in the cold and I don't sweat in them when it's warmer.

Kundenbewertung Magnus Eckert aus Eppstein trägt Herren Alpaka Pullover von Alpakin in dunkelbraun

The alpaca pullover is beautifully made and has a great shine. I wear it directly on my skin in the summer and with a shirt underneath in the winter. You can tell straight away that it is not a mass-produced item. I also like that it needs to be washed less often.

ALPACA PULLOVER

Comfort like you've never experienced before

Alpaca pullovers are not a standard item of clothing, but impress with their comfort and indescribable softness. Natural fiber clothing made from alpaca wool is still a premium niche and is one of the finest natural fibers in the world. Alpaca wool is obtained from the fur of alpacas and has been for thousands of years.

Alpacas live in the high mountains of South America at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters and are exposed to extreme weather conditions with strong temperature fluctuations. Even though they do not have humps, alpacas belong to the camel family and are therefore also known as New World camelids, or camels of the New World. The largest population of alpacas can be found in Peru, with around 80% of the world's alpaca population found in this special Andean country. Alpacas are the bred form of the wild vicuñas. To this day, vicuña wool is the most expensive wool in the world, and we owe the special properties of alpaca wool to its descent from vicuñas.

This is what makes alpaca wool sweaters so comfortable

Icon Feder für Weichheit

Softness

Alpaca fibers have a small diameter. They feel soft to wear, and the highest quality baby alpaca wool is guaranteed not to scratch and is as soft as cashmere.

Icon Thermometer für Temperatur

Warmest wool

Alpaca wool is the warmest wool and is therefore particularly popular for warm winter clothing such as cardigans and pullovers as well as for accessories such as scarves and socks.

Icon Thermoeigenschaft

Thermal properties

The hollow fibers of alpaca wool adapt to the temperature. Whether thin pullovers for spring and summer or winter sweaters for the cold season, alpaca wool won't let you freeze or sweat.

Icon Atmungsaktivität

Breathable

Like merino wool, alpaca wool is breathable and able to wick moisture away. Protein molecules contained in the wool neutralize bacteria and prevent the formation of odors.

Icon für Allergie

Suitable for allergy sufferers

Alpaca fur naturally contains hardly any lanolin (wool fat), which is why alpaca wool is also suitable for allergy sufferers. The variety of colors of alpacas, from cream to brown to black, simplifies the dyeing process and often makes it completely unnecessary.

Icon für Anti-Bakterien

Self-cleaning

Alpaca wool is dirt-repellent, airs out well in the fresh air and dries quickly. You can wash your alpaca sweater less often with a clear conscience because the wool neutralizes odors.

Animal welfare

Animal welfare organizations criticize alpaca wool due to disturbing shearing practices on large farms in Peru and other South American countries. As is all too often the case, the profit maximization of large manufacturers comes at the expense of animal welfare, which is why buyers are increasingly opting for wool without animal cruelty. Seals such as the Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS), a certificate that was created specifically for the production of alpaca wool, offer guidance here. At Alpakin, we only use animal welfare-certified wool according to the international RAS standard. Because we love alpacas and make no compromises when it comes to animal welfare.

Baby Alpaca

One of the biggest misconceptions is to believe that baby alpaca wool comes from baby alpacas. Instead, baby alpaca is the highest of a total of five quality levels of alpaca wool. Baby alpaca is the softest and most precious alpaca fiber and is only obtained from protected body parts of adult alpacas. Only around 200 grams of baby alpaca quality is obtained from each animal. Its softness and rarity make it a luxurious, fine fiber. Baby alpaca sweaters are softer than alpaca, have a silkier sheen, and are particularly light and warm. Baby alpaca is particularly popular for skin-tight textiles such as soft pullovers or warm ponchos.

Alpaca wool is sustainable and environmentally friendly

Alpaca wool is one of the most environmentally friendly fibers for making clothing. The South American camels are landscape-friendly animals that survive on little water and grass per day. As they eat, they cut the grass, promote grass growth and thus help to preserve the green Andean landscape. Sweaters made of alpaca wool are organic material that is biodegradable and leaves no harmful residues in the environment. The situation is completely different with synthetic fibers, which often take centuries to decompose and leave behind harmful microplastics.

How do I care for my alpaca sweater?

Contrary to expectations, alpaca wool is easy-care. The alpaca fiber is durable, robust and quick-drying. Alpaca pullovers generally need to be washed less often because the fiber has a high self-cleaning power. Regular airing in the fresh air neutralizes sweat and other odors.

You can wash alpaca pullovers in the washing machine or by hand. Use a gentle wool wash cycle at a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius and a low spin speed with a special wool detergent and do not use fabric softener. After washing, do not put the alpaca pullover in the dryer or iron it, but let it air dry lying down.
